ECO PARTY BAGS

Welcome to the online eco party bag shop !

Here is some information about our products, where they come from and how they are made. We hope you enjoy reading!

PARTY BAGS: Made from 100% recyclable, re-usable and biodegradable paper.
The Natural bags are now also made out of 100% recycled Kraft paper.  Each bag is big enough for the children's gift and a big slice of cake! Because the bags are plain in design the children can have fun personalising their own bag or they can be personalised with a theme.

The bags are also supplied with a label for you to seal and name individually.

FAIR TRADE:

Recycled Indian Newspaper Bags: This eco-friendly product is made from recycled Indian newspaper.  We source these from a  local  independant company who has been  importing and trading from
India for twenty years. They are a member of BAFTS the British Association of Fair Trade Shops.

The newspapers are collected by one man on his bicycle rickshaw calling at residential homes for any read newspapers. This is why sometimes your bag will have a completed crossword!.

The newspaper bags are made by an NGO (non government organisations) whose main objective is to provide education and shelter to street children. The organisation was started in 2004 by street children who wanted to give something back in return for the opportunities which had allowed them to escape desperate circumstances. These elder children, now married with children of their own, generate an income by making newspaper bags and jute items. This allows them to take care of thirteen street children that they have saved from the streets surrounding Delhi train station. Support for this wonderful project means that these children can enjoy going to school and playing, rather than pulling rickshaws, shoe polishing, rag picking and worse.

Fairly Traded Mulberry paper notepads:
The Origins Of Natural Hand-Crafted Mulberry Paper

Over 600 years ago in the mountains of North-Eastern Burma, the Karen hill-tribe people discovered a remarkable bark that naturally peeled from the trunk of a broad leafed tree at the end of every rainy season. So began the craft of making natural paper without destroying or cutting down the trees. The Karen villagers called this the ‘Saa’ tree or in English, the Mulberry Tree.

For the last hundred years, hill-tribe paper makers have been practising their craft in the neighbouring mountains of Northern Thailand. They still use natural dyes and lay their paper in the sun to dry, as did their ancestors centuries ago. This has now spawned a thriving cottage industry which helps save and not deplete these beautiful tall mountain trees.

WOODEN GIFTS: There are a selection of traditional wood toys and games. The products comply with the relevant toy and safety legislation.

celogoUnless otherwise stated in the gifts description, the products available are not suitable for children under 36 months, due to the presence of small parts which could cause choking.

RECYCLED GIFTS: The notepads, pencils and pens have been made using only UK recycled materials, they are fun, functional and recycled. The products have written on them, what the item was in a previous life and shows children and adults that recycling is COOL.

OTHER GIFTS: A great range of games that are excellent for prizes, pass the parcel or just to have in the cupboard for those unexpected times!!!.

UK MANUFACTURED BIODEGRADABLE LATEX BALLOONS: latex balloons are produced from the  milky sap of the rubber tree, hevea brasillensis.  It is grown on plantations in many tropical countires. The plantations help the ecosystem, as the natural biology of the trees helps maintain our atmosphere and protect the ozone layer.
The sap is collected in buckets, as it drips from harmless cuts in the bark.  The use of latex balloons and other latex products make rubber trees economically valuable, which discourages people from cutting them down and provides a valuable revenue to many third world countries.
Latex is a 100% natural substance that breaks down in sunlight and water.  The degradation process begins almost immediately after the balloon is manufactured.  Research has shown that latex balloons biodegrade at about the same rate as an oak leaf.  Here is a link I found really interesting on how latex balloons are made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz_A2QI9Oes
I hope you have found this information interesting, and remember to tell the children.

CONTACT CARDS:  fsclogo
I have these printed localy from an independant small business who only use paper and cardadvert sourced from European Paper Mills.  They use the latest Elemental Chlorine-Free (ECF) pulp cleaning technology in their plants to ensure minimal environmental impact. You may think well why not use recycled paper, well they have taken the advice of Ecological experts and decided not to offer recycled paper as an option, because to make paper from recycled pulp you need to use Eco-unfriendly chemicals to clean the paper, it is much better to use new pulp to make clean white paper and then recycle that paper, once used, into newspaper and packaging board where a high degree of whiteness is not a consideration

TABLEWARE:  *****New Edition****
We have found you: UK produced, recycled, biodegradable and affordable napkins without the frills.
Knives, Forks and Spoons, Plates and Cups. Lids and Straws, made from an annually renuable source and produced without environmental harm, a natural product, biodegradable and re-useable not to mention very affordable!.

We have also added a range of colourful party plates, cups, napkins and invitations, whilst these are not as environmentally friendly as we would like, they are paper and will biodegrade.

We hope you have fun choosing your party bags.

Mission Statement:
I started this project of selling Eco Friendlier Party Bags out of frustration from years of my children going to parties and coming home with a plastic bag that contained more throw away plastic objects, which were discarded and thrown away. I'm pleased to say I'm not alone as you are also searching for something better.

We have sourced toys that are wooden, biodegradable, good quality and safe. Some toys are packaged in a celophane cover to allow for the toy safety label to be shown clearly. We are always on the look out for local, greener products without the use of this additional packaging.
